Snow Day - Schools Closed!

Sometimes, you just need that extra day off. Yes, it was to be a short week anyway, (with Monday being President's Day) but during this time of year, although days are short, weeks seem to take forever to go by...

The anticipation was mounting on Thursday at school. You must understand that students typically watch the weather through the classroom windows, all throughout the year, whether it be rain, snow, sunshine or cloudy. But Thursday, yes, even the teachers were gazing out the windows with a longing look in their eyes. I knew all too well what they were thinking. Could we be lucky enough to have a snow day for Friday?

The snowflakes continued throughout most of the day. We heard that other schools were dismissing early. The weather was on everyone's mind. I might have even heard a few prayers whispered by the faculty to "please let the snow keep falling." As it neared 3:00, everyone was ready to rush off to their cars, anxious to beat the predicted ice storm that was going to top the already fallen snow.

I was among those first to get on the road to head home. Thoughts entered my mind how nice a three day weekend would be. Yes, a three day weekend, TWO weeks in a row. Yes, I could certainly handle that nicely.

Once home and after dinner, I continued to spy out the window at the streetlight to watch the snow blow harder and harder down on the little road I live on. It was absolutely beautiful to watch. Trees began to have an icy sheen to them. Out the back window of my home there was a deer family wandering through the snowy white woods. The field out the side almost looked like a frozen lake, with the icy glow on top of the snow.

We had all the makings for a snow day. Next thing I heard was the answering machine with a message that "Newport Independent Schools are cancelled due to inclement weather." Well, alright!... I sang out. Next thing I hear from upstairs, Michael is yelling ALRIGHT!!! -- yep, you know why. And icing on the cake, Katie had no Friday classes at NKU.

Snow+Ice=Snow Day or, for me, a special day at home with my favorite people.
